Kanyakumari is in the southern most point in the country where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean meet. The fantastic view of the sunrise and the sunset are very famous among the tourists. It is an exciting and exotic experience in the beaches on the day of full moon otherwise called as Chitra Pournami. The Vivekananda rock called by the name of Vivekananda memorial is the famous tourists spot in the city. Tourists have to take the help of the boats available on the shore to reach the rock. The rock was built in the year 1970. The statue of Thiruvalluvar the renowned author of Thirukkural is placed on a rock adjoining the Vivekananda memorial. The statue was opened up in the year 2000 on the eve of New Year. The Gandhi memorial and the Kamaraj memorial are the other famous locations in the city. There is a museum set up by the government in the beach road for the display of wood carvings, sculptures, coins and the items used by the tribes. The temple built by the Raja Raja Chola is the Guganathaswamy Temple which is about 1000 years old. The Sthanumalayan temple at Suchindram which is located about 13kms from Kanyakumari is dedicated to the three main Gods, Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and the Brahma.
